SEX OFFENSES
Criminal sex offenses are unique amongst all criminal offenses. This day and age, persons accused of sex offenses are often considered guilty by the public—and potential jurors—before any evidence has been taken. Understanding the situations and circumstances that lead to sex offenses is key in helping develop successful trial strategies.
Moreover, for persons who have already been found guilty, or have plead guilty, sometimes the most important aspect of any sex offense is advocacy at sentencing. Convincing a judge that someone poses no real risk to reoffend is the single most important factor in assuring a lenient sentence and favorable probation conditions. Time after time, we are retained to represent clients just at sentencing because of our expertise in sex offender issues. Our ability to select the appropriate expert for an evaluation, and argue actual scientific data, results in favorable sentences.
Persons convicted of sex offenses face a gauntlet of obstacles: intensive probation supervision, prohibition on travel, GPS monitoring, forced sex offender counseling, registration, polygraph examinations, and more. Lawyers unfamiliar with all of the consequences facing someone charged with a sex offense are not capable of providing adequate advice and representation. Thankfully, our knowledge of every area impacting a sex offender helps our clients be able to move on with their lives.
